The Board of Assessors will be visiting various properties in Chelsea over the next several months in order to update the lists of taxable property. Assessing is done annually this time of year to ensure equitable values are estasblished to property before the late summer tax commitment date. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Chelsea Seniors can receive free farm grown produce this summer.
In order to be eligible household members must be:
1. A Maine resident
2. 60 years old or older
3. Income levels at or below – Single person – $20,147 and Two person – $ 27,214

NOTICE TO ALL TAXPAYERS
Title 36, Section 706, M.R.S.A
Before making an assessment, the tax assessors may give seasonable notice, in writing, to taxpayers to furnish the assessors a List of Estates not exempt from taxation which were possessed on the first day of April of the current year. In the past, the Chelsea Assessors included a form for this listing in the Annual Town Report. However, when the fiscal year was changed to July 1st-June 30th, taxpayers were not receiving the form until after it was due. This form is posted on the Town’s website: chelseamaine.org The form can be downloaded and copies are also available at the Town Office. If you would like the form mailed to you, or if you have questions about the process, please call the Town Office, 582-4802, or send an email to: ChelseaAssessors@chelseamaine.org Forms should be completed and returned to the Assessors Office by May 15, 2012.
